How to Make Pizza at Home

Ingredients

For the Dough (Makes 2 pizzas):

• 2 ¼ teaspoons (1 packet) active dry yeast
• 1 ½ cups warm water (110°F / 45°C)
• 3 ½ to 4 cups all-purpose flour
• 2 tablespoons olive oil
• 1 teaspoon sugar
• 1 teaspoon salt

For the Toppings:

• 1 cup tomato sauce or crushed tomatoes
• 2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
• Your favorite toppings (pepperoni, mushrooms, bell peppers, etc.)
• Fresh basil or oregano (optional)

Instructions

1. Activate the yeast: In a small bowl, mix warm water, sugar, and yeast. Let sit for 5–10 minutes until foamy.
2. Make the dough: In a large bowl, combine flour and salt. Add the yeast mixture and olive oil. Stir until a shaggy dough forms.
3. Knead the dough: Turn onto a floured surface and knead for 5–7 minutes until smooth and elastic.
4. Let it rise: Place dough in a lightly oiled bowl, cover with a damp cloth, and let rise in a warm place for 1–2 hours, or until doubled in size.
5. Preheat oven: Preheat your oven to 475°F (245°C). If you have a pizza stone, place it in the oven while preheating.
6. Shape the pizza: Punch down the dough and divide into two balls. Roll out each on a floured surface to your desired thickness.
7. Add toppings: Spread tomato sauce over the dough, sprinkle cheese, then add your toppings.
8. Bake: Bake for 10–15 minutes, until crust is golden and cheese is bubbly.
9. Serve: Let cool for a few minutes, slice, and enjoy!
